How to Set up a Dial up Internet Connection



Call a internet service provider (Bell, Rogers, Wightman) to obtain your internet service. 



































Make sure your PC is plugged in. Connect a telephone cord from the back of your PC to the Telephone jack outlet located on the wall of the room you are in. Turn your PC power on.


 

  Go to the control panel. 






Go to network connections






Create a new connection.

 
A small window will pop up, just click the next button once.


 
Click on “set up my connection manually”. Click the next button.


 
Click on “connect using a dial up modem”. Then click the next button.


 
You will now be asked to type in your internet’s ISP name. 




 
The setup will now tell you that you have completed setting up the internet connection. Click the finish button.


To set up a broadband (DSL or cable) connection
  • To set up a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or cable connection, you first need an account with an Internet service provider (ISP).
  • For DSL, the ISP is usually a phone company.
  • For cable, it's usually a cable TV provider.
  • You will also need a modem, a router, or a device that combines the two.
  • Some ISPs will provide you with these devices; if your ISP doesn't, you'll need to buy them.
  • When you have your modem, router, or combination device, follow the corresponding steps.
  • A combined modem and router plugged in


 
  1. Plug the device into an electrical outlet.
  1. Plug one end of a phone cord or cable into the wide area network (WAN) port of the device, and then plug the other end into the wall jack.
The WAN port should be labeled "WAN."
  1. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the local area network (LAN) port on the device, and then plug the other end into the networking port of the computer that you want to connect to the Internet.
The LAN port should be labeled "LAN.“
  1. Start (or restart) the computer.
  1. Open the Connect to the Internet wizard by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel.

  2. In the search box, type network, click Network and Sharing Center, click Set up a new 
    connection or network, and then double-click Connect to the Internet.

  3. Follow the steps in the wizard.

  4. Click Set up my connection manually, and then click Next.

  5. Click either Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password or Connect using a broadband connection that is always on.

  6. Type the Internet service provider (ISP) name that your ISP provided, and then
    click Next.

  7. Type the user name that the ISP provided.

  8. Type the password that the ISP provided.

  9. Type the password one more time to confirm it, and then click Next.

  10. Click Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.

  11. Click Finish to complete the wizard.
